Painting is fundamentally about capturing and manipulating light. While imitating the play of light on an object and its resulting shadow is a primary concern, it’s merely a starting point. The true achievement lies in the painter’s orchestration of light reflected from the canvas, the very light that reaches the viewer’s eye. I prefer to incorporate the light source directly into my paintings, illuminating objects on the left from their right side and vice versa. This technique creates a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, enhancing the visual experience.
