A square is a rectangle, but a rectangle is not necessarily a square. By definition, a square is a quadrilateral with four right angles and four equal sides. A rectangle, on the other hand, is simply a quadrilateral with four right angles. Therefore, all squares fit the definition of a rectangle. I paint on rectangular canvases. When an artist works within an oval or a circle, the challenge of activating and composing the corners is removed, which is a significant part of the creative process and enjoyment for me.
